Dear, Professor Rodwell:

Would you see any of your surroundings such as buildings, businesses or just cars without engineers in this world? The answer is no because without the creativity and thinking out the box, none of those ideas or products would be available for the people to use to make their life easier. Every engineering field is important to be available to help the public or just a business. For instance, civil engineers are the ones to be thanked for the roads, building or bridges that are still intact today. They need to calculate every single commodity, so the bridge does not collapse on active driver while on their way to work or their intended destination. Another great example is, during the Industrial Revolution, there were many advancements to technologies and weapons. The tank was first introduced in WW1. Two decades later, tanks were heavily engineered and modified so it would become a mass destruction. In addition, tanks were so heavily modified that even heavy artilleries such as the Negev and M249 couldn’t even penetrate the steel and metal of the tank. The only way to take out the tanks is to infiltrate it or suicide bombers. Aircrafts were made in WW1 in order to bomb and target enemies and later on was engineered for WW2 in order to further advance. This is how mechanical engineers come in hand, thinking out of the box helped forged America’s advancement and have a faster war instead of killing more innocent lives. As a matter of fast, a very famous person we all have come up to know it the genius, Thomas Edison. He was a great inventor, but he was not to mention considered one of the most famous electrical engineers that ever lived. Almost every single person is currently using his famous invention, the light bulb. These examples demonstrate that the world we live in would much more different if there were no engineers. They were a huge game changer into society.

However, for me specifically, I want to study the field for computer engineering. Computer engineers are more important to the business itself because they fix any technical problem that occurs on servers or just any machine. My short-term goal is finding an internship or a job something related in computer engineering, so I get familiar with the life style and what they are expected to know. In a very male dominated field, I want to be a strong woman to reverse the norm of only men being interested in computers. Moreover, my long-term goals are to be able to work in a field that I am passionate about because nowadays a lot of individuals work just to work and hate their jobs. Hence, to be able to stay focused and have a positive mindset because staying positive will take you far in life.
