The purpose of this memo is to present a solution to the wetness on the floor and water dripping on students caused by leakage of pipes. To provide students with a more comfortable school environment and prevent further problems due to the leakage of pipes.

Summary

When a student walks down a hallway, they either encounter water dripping on top of their heads out of nowhere or they see a water puddle on the floor. Due to either a hole in the pipes or just leakage of water in general, this can cause a bigger problem in the foreseeable future if not treated quickly and efficiently. For instance, for me specifically, most of my classes are in the North Academic Center and so are the rest of students and there are numerous leaks happening there. This is unacceptable since the majority of classes are in the NAC building for almost all students. In that case, I’d like to talk to you about this issue when you have the chance.

Discussion

Roof Leakage is a big problem if not treated as soon as possible. Many possible outcomes can occur from a single leak. For instance, students can fall and injure themselves which is an issue, mold and insect infestation can appear which is extremely bad for the structure itself and not to mention the cost of trying to get rid of it if not treated in time, and more importantly you can’t forget all the health issues and violation of having leakage at a college campus.

There can be numerous causes for the leak to happen. For example, since City College of New York is an old campus, age can be a big part for leakage to begin. Water dripping, and roof leakage is not a good reputation you want students to endure when going to class. The only way students are dealing with this problem is either walking around the leakage or walking though it because they are more focused on making it on time to class rather can looking out for water.

I have seen water dripping on my fellow students and a couple of times on my head too. It’s not a good example you want to be shown of City College of New York. People will get sick of going through the halls worrying about too many things. However, there are many solutions to this problem.

Recommendation

I’d like to talk to you, when you get the chance, about how to fix the roof leakage around the campus buildings. For instance, some solutions that I can provide is to hire a person like a handyman to fix the current leaks from the ceilings. Rather than replacing every pipe, this solution will not cost you as much. With this solution, it’s cost effective and a better solution overall. With this solution, you won’t see the problem any time in the future.

Memo Self-Reflection

Course Learning Outcomes helped me achieve a better understanding of the assignment on hand. Enhancement of strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment was something I took while writing this assignment. I went through the whole process of writing my first draft, then revising my own work, later my peers helped me edit my draft which finally resulted in the final draft. When it came to peer editing, I edited my peer’s work to the best of my ability. However, when I got my paper back, I saw that I needed more work on the recommendation because I provided, a very vague solution. The constructive criticism was very helpful considering when I looked over what I had written previously, I needed to elaborate on my solution in order to persuade the president to deal with this urgent matter.

Formulating and articulating a stance through and in my writing also played a major role because I had trouble trying to elaborate the stance throughout the memo. However, it helped me focus on addressing the roof leakage issue specifically only to the president himself. I elaborated that it was a serious problem that needs be dealt with immediately and cannot be ignored. If this issue is not dealt with in a timely manner, it will disallow students from being educated since the pipes from the leakage will lead to classes being cancelled, hence hindering students from reaching their true potentials. There are so many others alongside with me in the college that wants to get the leakage under control. Hence, it is a better option to discuss this problematic issue now rather waiting until it expands into a bigger problem for the college. I would want this problem to be directly addressed to the president rather than one of his staff members to look at it and then ignore the important issue by not forwarding it to the president.

Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation was my final course learning outcome that I achieved while writing this assignment. When I received the assignment of writing a memo, my mind went blank, I had no idea what a memo was. However, after reading and looking at examples of memo, I understood how to write a proper memo. A memo includes the purpose, summary, discussion, and a recommendation. Nevertheless, I answered the questions that was asked in the discussion portion of the textbook and the questions that were supposed to be answered in the discussion that we went over in class.
